PAC MEMBERS:
Elly
Scheepens, President
"I have lived and worked in New Denver for 15 years. I
love this particular community because it is beautiful and natural, and
the Kootenay lifestyle suits me as an artist. I am involved in the
school because I believe education is important, and I like the
opportunity to contribute. My son is now in grade 11 and I am also the
host parent of a Japanese student, one of 2 girls who are lucky to have
found New Denver. They are all hoping to graduate from Lucerne School
next year." |

Julia
Greenlaw, Vice President
Julia Greenlaw moved to New
Denver from the Gulf Islands two years ago. She and her family — a
husband a two sons aged four and seven — have been delighted by the
area’s friendly and welcoming community. They all love the school and
its teachers, and are happy to be involved in its programs. They have
especially enjoyed its outdoor activities such as skiing, snow-shoeing,
nature studies, and beach days; its arts programs, like the writers’ and
arts festival; and its connection with the Suzuki music school. Julia is
an assistant at the New Denver nursery school (attached to the main
school), which her youngest son has enjoyed for the last two years. She
and her family are also keen on gardening, goats, natural building, and
exploring the stunning local environment. |

Isy Schumann,
Treasurer
My teenage daughter and I
moved to New Denver from Canmore 3 years ago. We love the beauty and
serenity of this place. I signed on as the Lucerne School PAC Treasurer
in the winter of 2006. PAC is an excellent way to be informed about what
is happening in our unique K-12 school. I recognize both the rewards and
challenges of small rural schools, especially high school. I love
teenagers and am interested in finding ways to give them the best
education possible in our small school. “We should really listen to
their needs.” |

Terry Taylor
Terry has been an active member of the Lucerne School PAC
since her daughter was in Kindergarten. She is passionate about what
makes Lucerne a great place to be and knows that parent leadership makes
a big difference to our school and for our students! Terry is proud that
our Parent Advisory Council takes leadership in creating and
funding initiatives including the Hot Lunch and Healthy Snack programs,
in support and the creation of the Lucerne School and Community Writers
Festival, and in offering support for team uniforms, band instruments,
the Arts Festival, and school field trips. |

Jan McMurray
Jan McMurray has two children
at Lucerne and appreciates the opportunity to contribute to the school
through the PAC. She also sits on the board of the Slocan Lake Early
Learning Society, which manages the New Denver Nursery School, located in
a classroom at the school. |

Margaretha Pijnenburg
I am a parent
and just moved to New Denver with my family. I love the beauty and
serenity of the mountains and the lake. My son was easily accepted into
the Lucerne school community and is enjoying the outdoors. |
